Five decades of disciplined, independent practice.
From a single office in Kolkata in 1972 to a ten-partner, pan-India practice — one standard has carried through every engagement.
Founded in Kolkata. Built in Darbhanga. Practising across India.
Bhattacharya & Associates is a partnership of Chartered Accountants established in 1972 in Kolkata by Shrikumar Bhattacharya. From that founding, the firm has built a broad, institution-grade practice spanning audit, assurance, taxation and advisory — headquartered today in Darbhanga, Bihar, with a partner-led presence in Patna, New Delhi, Ludhiana, Saharsa and Gurgaon.
Over fifty-four years the firm has served on the audit panels of public sector banks, maintained books and conducted internal audits for state universities and their colleges, and advised companies, trusts and government bodies across Bihar, Delhi, Punjab and West Bengal. The firm is led today by its Managing Partner, CA Prashant Kumar Jha (FCA, DISA), with a partnership of ten Chartered Accountants.

Shrikumar Bhattacharya
Founder, 1972
Shrikumar Bhattacharya founded Bhattacharya & Associates in Kolkata in 1972, with a conviction that a professional practice should be defined by integrity, technical rigour and an unwavering commitment to the institutions it serves. More than five decades later, those convictions continue to shape the firm.
A Chartered Accountant since 1971, he graduated with a B.Com (Honours), M.Com and LL.B. from the University of Calcutta, and combined expertise in accountancy, law and insurance to give clients practical, comprehensive counsel.
He served as a Lecturer in Accountancy and Auditing at City College of Commerce & Business Administration, a Professor at Bagnan College, an Examiner for the University of Calcutta, and a Licensed Surveyor and Loss Assessor — a career built as much on teaching the profession as practising it.
From a single office in Kolkata, his practice has grown into a firm of ten partners with offices across India, while remaining rooted in the standard he set at its founding.
Partner-led, from engagement to opinion.
The firm is led by Managing Partner CA Prashant Kumar Jha, supported by a partnership of ten Chartered Accountants, each holding named responsibility for a specific practice area — from bank and government audit to GST litigation, forensic investigation, ERP assurance and capital markets research. Every engagement is scoped, reviewed and signed off by a named partner; no opinion leaves the firm without partner accountability attached to it.
Six offices, five states, one standard.
A head office in Darbhanga, supported by branches that keep the firm close to clients and regulators across the country.
Why independence is structural, not promotional.
Independence at Bhattacharya & Associates is not a claim made in marketing copy — it is a working discipline. The firm holds no network-affiliate obligations and no incentive structure beyond the engagement itself. Every audit opinion is reviewed and signed by a named partner before issue, and every finding is reported as it stands, whether or not it is comfortable for the client to read.
Documentation is built to a standard that anticipates external review — by a regulator, a bank's own inspection process, or a university's audit committee — not only an internal file check. This is the same discipline the firm has applied since 1972, carried forward by every partner who has joined the practice since.
Independence
Judgement that answers to the standard, not the brief.
Precision
Accuracy in the detail; clarity in the report.
Integrity
A clean record across five decades of regulation.
Stewardship
Care for the institutions we are entrusted to audit.
From a sole proprietorship, to a partnership, to a pan-India practice — one principle has carried through every engagement: precision.
